Yesterday was the first-ever Camp United at the F.M. Kirby Center, an evening held in partnership with United Way of Wyoming Valley and other community organizations. Attendees enjoyed activity stations and experienced a special storytime featuring the book “Little Blue Fish,” which was given to each child to take home.
WNEP Reporter Melissa Steininger visited Camp United to spotlight the event in a video that can be viewed here. Melissa spoke to a few campers enjoying Camp United activities, as well as F.M. Kirby Center Executive Director Joell Yarmel and United Way of Wyoming Valley CEO Sarah Peperno, who each gave more information about the camp’s purpose.

Camp United at the F.M. Kirby Center takes place at 11AM every Tuesday through August 11, 2026. Attendees receive a free lunch, a popcorn, and a copy of the book of the week. After camp, kids are welcome to stay for The Honesdale National Bank Big Screen Summer Series, a collection of children’s films playing on The Luzerne Foundation Screen at the F.M. Kirby Center on Tuesdays at 1PM.
